Hello Friends and Family, Last week mike and I attended a Broadcast here in California about Prop 8. This is the proposition that would put 14 words into our California constitution “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” I want you to know that Mike and I will be supporting this Proposition and have taken an active role in supporting this. Why are we supporting this issue?
First, If Prop 8 does not pass our teachers in our public educations schools will be forced to teach that Marriage that is between a man and a woman is the same as that of a same-sex couples. This is an issue that should be discussed in our home, not in school.
Second, If Prop 8 does not pass Churches and Organizations that have non-profit/exempt status and do not recognize same-sex marriages will lose their tax subsidizations.
Third, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I sustained the leaders of my church to be Prophets, Seers and Revelators in the last General Confrence. In 1995, our Church leaders released The Family: A Proclamation to the World. In here it warns
"Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society. "
I often think of the pride cycle in the Book of Mormon. That all too often in the Book of Mormon we see that prophets are cast out and the people do not listen to the words of the prophet and destruction falls among these people. Today we have the Prophet and the Apostles warning us of the destruction that will come to our society if marriage is changed. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a plan for happiness, and at the center of this plan are Marriage and the Family. I fully believe that when you change the family and marriage structure there will be lasting effects.
I also know there are people out there who will not agree with what I am saying. I want to share with you all the way that mike and I feel about this particular issue, and let it be understood that we are standing up for what we believe. I have a testimony of families and the important role they play in our fathers plan.
Those outside of California WE NEED YOUR HELP. We do not know many people here in Bakersfield, but we know that you may know many people in California. Please understand that this will not affect just us in California, but would be the start of a movement across America. So contact those in California, encourage them to register to Vote, to vote YES TO PROP 8.

Jacque, I wanted to thank you for posting this. Some of my family members live in the bay area and in San Diego and are doing the same thing. My heart breaks to hear of so many members of our church who say flat out that they don't care, won't vote because "everyone is entitled to be with the one they love", or are openly wearing rainbow pins to church and fighting to legalize same sex marriage. I am baffled that members of our church would so blatantly go against our church leaders and what they ask of us. WE are doing all we can here, but I'm glad for people like you there in cali that will stand for what is right!
Thanks Jacque! I wasn't going to get involved thinking it didn't apply to me (sad as it sounds). But we're really getting on the ball with letting our voice be heard to those we know there, which is a lot since I grew up near SF.
Job well done!
So are you registered in California now to vote!? That would be awesome if you are!
I wish I would've read your post sooner! I've been very sympathetic towards gays and their side of the issue through the whole process. Basically, what it boils down to is: what do you believe in? The church or the media? God or "the world"? You raise a lot of good points in your post. Its awesome to see people stand up for whats right in a way that's still loving. Most of all, your comments are logical. Thanks for the post.
